Retail Worker Stress

Retail workers across Ireland are being offered the services of a trained counsellor over the christmas period, to help them try and deal with their anger and frustration from dealing with the public.

Shoppers over the christmas period lose any sense of respect, dignity and social skills they may have. They regress to caveman like behaviours and often retail workers get the worst of it.

Stress, anxiety and anger levels all peak with retail workers during one of their least favourite times of year.

Worryingly, staff often develop dependencies and addictions on substances like alcohol, heroin and LSD to try and cope with the terror of working retail over xmas.

Tragic

Roisin, who works in The Blanchardstown Shopping centre said:

“People go insane and become very aggressive and unreasonable to try and get your attention. Even though you’re already dealing with someone, they don’t seem to care. It’s so frustrating I just feel like boxing them in the face, but I can’t, otherwise I won’t get my xmas bonus.”

She went on to comment about a time when “one woman dropped her bags and began taking a piss in the middle of the floor, all because I wouldn’t show her where the Bobby Brown Tinted Moistuising was”.

The trauma that retail workers must suffer has been increasing year on year according to the latest research figures.

With violent events like Black Friday becoming commonplace in many outlets, retail workers witness a dark side of humanity that leaves many of them scared for life.

PTXSS

Psychologists have called this retail worker disorder, Post Traumatic Xmas Shopping Syndrome and claim  they are dealing with an ever increasing number of patients year on year.

To help manage the problem, shopping centres are now offering free private sessions with trained counsellors during the day. Staff will be encouraged to attend, to help them manage their anger levels and make the xmas period, slightly more bearable.

If you work in retail and have been affected by any of these issues, quit. You’ll be happier.
